Let's Talk About Symbol Management
How Duplikium makes managing symbol differences simple
If you're a serious trader, you've likely noticed that each trading symbol can yield different results.
These differences in behavior are influenced by the market, liquidity, and other economic factors, such as contract size, tick size and value, margin requirements, and more. With these in mind, there’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for trading symbols with differing characteristics. For example, when trading in your Forex app, you might use a regular trade size with the EURUSD but take a more conservative approach when trading GOLD.. It’s also good to keep in mind, especially, if you are trading with different brokers that the availability of symbols could vary. The name or ticker name format could also vary.
Check Your Broker’s Symbol Specification
You can find symbol specifications in your trading platform by navigating to Market Watch and selecting the symbol you want to review. Most platforms, including MT4, MT5, cTrader, and FXCM, provide access to detailed information about each symbol.
When you check a symbol’s specifications in your trading platform, you’ll find key details like contract size, tick value, margin requirements, trading hours, and swap fees. These factors impact trade execution, risk, and costs. Understanding them helps you manage positions effectively and avoid surprises when trading across different brokers.
How Can You Manage Your Symbols with Your Trade Copier?
To effectively handle differences in symbol names, contract sizes, and risk parameters, you need a trade copier that supports symbol-level settings.
That’s where Duplikium comes in. Our platform gives you full control over how symbols are copied, allowing you to customize settings at a granular level to match your trading strategy. Here’s how Duplikium helps:
Different Symbol Names with Different Trading Brokers
You can map symbols through the symbol settings. Each Slave broker has its own symbol settings relative to your Master trading account, so you need to enter the Master symbol name and the corresponding symbol for your Slave broker. If the symbols differ only slightly, such as EURUSD versus EURUSD.i, no mapping is necessary as our trade copier can handle this automatically. However, for more significant differences, such as XAUUSD versus GOLD, mapping is required.
Applying Risk Management Settings Per Symbol
You can customize your trading strategy by setting unique risk factors for each symbol, adjusting lot sizes based on symbol characteristics, and using advanced settings to fine-tune risk management. This ensures better control over your trades and aligns your risk with each symbol’s behavior. To define different risk management settings for specific symbols, go to Copy Settings -> Symbol Settings. You can set unique risk factors and access advanced settings for additional customization. Filtering Symbols You Don’t Want to Copy
If your prop firm or broker offers symbols you don’t want to trade, you can easily manage this using the Symbol Filter in your account settings. This lets you control which trades are copied, ensuring your strategy stays focused.
To access the Symbol Filter, click on the account settings icon, then open the filter settings (look for the user+cogwheel icon beside your trading account info). You’ll have two options:
Whitelist – Only the symbols you enter will be copied. Everything else is ignored.
Blacklist – The symbols you enter will be ignored, while everything else will be copied.
And More Customization Options!
We believe in systematic trading strategies that give you an edge. Understanding symbol specifications helps you fine-tune your approach and avoid broker discrepancies. With Duplikium, you have full customization to enhance your trading. You can limit the number of orders copied per symbol, set different position management settings, and apply fixed SL and TP at the symbol level.
Symbol Settings sit at the highest level in the hierarchy of trade copier settings. If you've already defined general settings, any configuration at the symbol level will override them. This gives you precise control over individual symbols while maintaining a flexible strategy.
Use the tools to map symbols, fine-tune risk, and block unwanted trades so everything runs the way you want. The more control you have, the easier trading becomes. Set up your strategy and trade with confidence using Duplikium.
