What to Look for in Choosing Your Trading Broker

Get this right and save yourself from headaches down the road

Choose your ideal broker

Hey there! So, you're thinking about getting into trading? Cool! With thousands of brokers around promising flawless user experience, low spreads, and all things nice, it’s quite daunting for traders which broker to choose. Getting this right can save you a ton of headaches down the road. We’ve heard stories from countless customers, co-traders, and trading communities about poor customer service, their withdrawals taking forever, sketchy practices, and the worst… scams. Ouch!

Don’t get us wrong. There are many legit and great brokers out there. As a trader, you just need to know what to look for with some due diligence. Mixing our personal experience and the responses from other traders, these are the top 8!

1. Are They Legit? (Regulation)

While new brokers, especially the unregulated ones can be convincing with their offers and promises, the safest way to go is to opt for brokers regulated by well-known authorities such as the FCA, ASIC, or SEC. It’s good to note that these regulators operate within their own jurisdiction and could vary from country to country. These regulations are necessary to protect us, traders, from undisclosed financial risk and fraud.

2. User-Friendly Platform

This part can be subjective as we have unique user preferences. But it’ll save you a lot of time if your broker provides an easy-to-understand user interface covering your trading needs. That’s why testing the waters before commitment is important. Start with a demo account first before opening a live account. This way, you can get a feel of how their system works and make your own observations before taking the plunge.

Here at Duplikium, we follow the same mentality. We want our customers to understand our platform and services before getting a paid plan. You can register for free and test the service without even entering a credit card. Want to give it a spin? Register here for free!

3. What Can You Trade?

Make sure they've got what you want to trade. Whether it's forex, stocks, crypto, indices, or whatever else floats your boat, your broker should have you covered.

4. Fees and Stuff

Trading isn't free, sadly. Brokers make money through spreads (the difference between buy and sell prices) and commissions. Don't just go for the cheapest option – sometimes you get what you pay for. Don’t let them rip you off with ridiculous fees either. Find a happy medium. The best way is to check different brokers and compare prices.

5. Speed and Stability Matter

When you click "buy" or "sell," you want that to happen pronto. Slow execution can cost you money. Markets can be volatile, especially during high-volume hours. If your broker’s servers are not equipped to handle volume, you will experience delayed execution, downtime, and other headaches that come with poor server infrastructure.

6. Help When You Need It

We’re big on customer service! It reflects the mindset of the people operating the company. Look for brokers that offer customer support that really answers your questions not just giving you the run around. Go ahead and give it a try. Reach out to their support team and see how fast they get back to you with quality responses.

7. Getting Money In and Out

Depositing as well as withdrawing your funds should be easy. We understand that there are some restrictions depending on where you are, but at least a good broker has several mediums to cater to their wide range of traders. Also, consider the fees involved for deposits and withdrawals.

8. Check forums and reviews

Check out reviews, but take them with a grain of salt. Some people will complain about anything. Be objective about it. Look for any real issues mentioned by reviewers—are there serious problems, like money disappearing unexpectedly? Yikes. Is there a common pattern with these reviews?

That's it! Our top 8 checklist on what to look for in choosing the right broker. It may take some extra work and research, but hey, anything involves money need some due diligence. It's always best to stay safe, stay away from scams, and be careful when transacting online. Always go for demo first. Test the water before taking a full dive. Here at Duplikium, we believe in putting you first. Our infrastructure is always evolving to accommodate your changing needs. But despite that, your overall experience with copy trading also relies on a reliable broker. The right broker is just out there waiting for you to find them. Now, it's time for your big search!
